Catania, Puglisi Cosentino Foundation
6 febbraio 2011-12 June 2011

The Foundation Alfio Puglisi Cosentino offers at Palazzo Valle, in the heart of Catania, from 6 February to 12 June 2011, a major exhibition curated by Carla Accardi Luca Massimo Barbero .
absolutely unrepeatable will be an exhibition: the artist, in fact, it is doubly protagonist with his works but also with his personal interpretation of the architecture and spaces of the historic building, a masterpiece of Vaccarini. A major exhibition-installation, therefore, where each room will be characterized differently, according to the report that Carla Accardi perceives between his work and the architecture of the seat intended to receive them.
Along this path through the palace designed by the artist, are intertwined and each other in an ideal order his early work on the dialogue between space, color and sign up to the experimental sicofoil of transparent surfaces, on which he paints, and joint installations large.

Carla Accardi (Trapani, 1924) lives and works in Rome since 1946. He participated in the Rome group Form since 1947 and is considered one of the protagonists of Italian abstract art since World War II: Since 1948 has participated on several occasions at the Venice Biennale. His work is based on the fruitful interaction between sign, size, light and color, branching into outputs ranging from painting to installation.

The first rooms of the exhibition will be devoted to the articulation of what may be called the "chromatic signs" of Accardi, which begin to proliferate on the canvases of the early fifties in free and extended configurations, and then take the middle of the decade, the characteristic duotone of positive / negative, which determines the area between black and white. A deliberate chronological gap, in the same room, brings together these works with the installation Labyrinth House of 1999-2000, which traveled by the Plexiglas signs is crossed by blacks and whites, suggesting a direct comparison between the expression of branched seasons Accardi.
After a room dedicated to the series of works centered development, called "round" or "brains", the exhibition will focus on the design of the sign in grids and regular rhythm, and today you can read the extraordinary relevance and color is linguistic field. For these reasons, the exhibition explores in a new way as never before and the physicality of the dialogue between sign and transparency in the work of Accardi: it focuses in particular on the works carried out on sicofoil, ranging from works on rectangular or square frame, with hints shaped frames installed, the actual achievements in key environmental impacts beyond the painting. To underline this tension
environmental work of Accardi, the entire route of the exhibition is conceived as a path in the building that communicates with the physicality of its halls, including recent works created for the occasion, as the great of SURFACE ceramics designed for her yard. The route of exposure will also be dotted with facilities located in relation to the architecture and works on the walls, such as Rolls (1965-69), Cilindrocono (1972), Screens (1972), the series of cones in earthenware (2004), are divided in vain (2006).
Upstairs, the exhibition presents a special hall dedicated to large works painted by the artist to his own room at the Venice Biennale in 1988, culminating with Pasos de Pasaje (2007), great work that achieves the fusion of architecture and mark: painted stoneware tile floor, with signs alternating green and cobalt on white background, that they also point to a strong relationship with the creative tradition of applied art in Sicily and was built to duet with Gianna Nannini, who it was designed to track its presence as a specific sound parallel to the visual.

Made in collaboration with Studio Accardi, headquarters of the artist, and RAM mobile radio art of Rome, which is its main gallery of reference, the exhibition will also have the extraordinary opportunity to showcase the new catalog of being publication, edited by Germano Celant, besides being the first major new exhibition reflected the artist in Italy after a series of significant international exhibitions that have been dedicated, like the one at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires.
During the exhibition, a monograph will be published in color by Luca Massimo Barbero, published by Silvana Editoriale, through a rich iconographic woven unpublished essays and a selection of documentary materials, intends to propose a course of focused reading of the work of Accardi, dedicated to the relationship between sign and transparency.
the second floor will be an exhibition
